An enthusiastic group of around 38 members meet on the last Monday of every month at 7.30pm in the church centre. There is a variety of speakers and social activities throughout the year. The Mother’s Union provide welcome hospitality at most church events. New member’s are welcome and we currently have three male members as membership is open to both genders.

We are a worldwide organisation with over three
thousand members in 71 countries. We have paid workers in countries overseas and a few in the U.K. In the areas in which they live. They help with ball family problems such as AIDS, teenage pregnancy, orphans etc. We run a family life programme which helps which helps with all these things and they are trained well and pass their skills onto many others. They is also a literary programme which helps them in many ways. Now women can read, write and count, they are much stronger within the
family and can go shopping without being diddled.
Nationally and internationally we have parenting programmes, and also in the U.K. We run a scheme called AFIA (away from it all) which provides holidays for needy families where the parent(s) are out of work. In the Gloucester Diocese only we have MUMAS (Mothers Union Money Advice Service), which gives free advice to those suffering
financial difficulties. We get consulted by government on subjects which effect families and our chief executive, Reg Bailey has recently produced The Bailey Report, following an independent enquiry into the commercialisation and
sexualisation of children. This followed our campaign Bye Buy Childhood, where many members wrote to their M.P. About this and a petition was taken to
10 Downing Street.
We also help in prisons up and down the UK and help in 3 prisons in Gloucestershire. The children's play area at Leyhill, The Mother and baby unit at Eastwood Park, and at Gloucester prison in the tea bar, play area and as court liaison officers.
On a local level all sorts of things take place depending on the need in each
community. Many play groups, lunch clubs, helping in schools etc are run by MU
members. Here in Brockworth we lend a hand at the children's centre with the “stay and play group” and other things as needed. This has been helping at their fetes,
running Christmas workshops for the mums, cooking courses, weaning courses etc.
With all that we do, everything is based on prayer, and midday prayers are held
whenever possible. We hold retreats and quiet days and festival services and we have a “wave of prayer”, which is going on all the time. Each diocese has the same dates every year, and this is then shared out into deaneries and branches and we pray for our link
dioceses around the world.
We also have a lot of fun, and our monthly meetings are not mandatory to
membership, but they do provide an opportunity for fun and fellowship.
We will not pressure you to join, but will pray that you want to.
