Bell Tower
There have been bells in the church for many years. Until last century they were rung from ground level in the centre of the church which must have been very interesting whenever there was a wedding!
Following the Victorian restoration the tower height was doubled and a new ringing room created enabling a far more flexible ringing pattern. There are currently six bells hung for change ringing. Bells were cast by John Taylor of Loughborough. The first / treble bears the inscription "John Taylor, Bell Founder, Loughborough, AD 1849" and displays the bust of a bishop. The second bell is similarly inscribed, but is larger, with a circumference of 34 inches. The third is inscribed "I Taylor, Fecit. 1849" and there is a bust of a queen on it. The fourth and fifth have the same inscription as the treble. The 13cwt Tenor has a large circumference and hence longer text; "Gloria in Excelsis Deo. Amen. I Taylor Fecit. Loughborough. 1849" this bell too has the bust of a bishop upon it.
The bells were last quarter turned and tuned in September 1930 at a cost of £260. This was paid for by voluntary subscription.
The Ringers meet on a Thursday at 7:30 - 9 pm for practice and ring for Sunday Services at 9:30 am, the service begins at 10 am. New ringers, experienced or novice are always welcome on a Thursday evening.
