ST GEORGE’S ART GROUP
St George’s Art Group was formed in 1995 by 3 members of the church, with Allan Hirst taking the lead. When Allan passed away in July 2004, Ray Bordiss led the group until ill health forced him to retire in October 2007. Rena Perkins took on the running of the group in October 2007.
Marjorie Warren 1911 – 2011
Miss Marjorie Warren was one of the founder members of the Art Group. She celebrated her 100th birthday last January and sadly passed away in May. She attended our Thursday afternoon sessions right up to her last week, giving us all the benefit of her knowledge of painting and drawing. She was a great inspiration to us all and is very much missed.
We are a “self help” group, working mainly in watercolours. The more skilled and experienced artists are always happy to help and encourage other members.
We have weekly sessions on Thursday afternoons from 2.00pm to 4.00pm in the Church Centre, with breaks for a few weeks at Christmas, Easter and the month of August.
We pay a subscription of £1.50 per week and this, along with the money we raise from our annual exhibition in St George’s Church Centre, allows us from time to time to hire local artists to give us tuition.
Thank you to all those of you who came along and supported our exhibition in October. We had a really good day.
This is a very friendly group and we would welcome new members, experienced or beginners.
So – all those of you who have always promised yourselves you’d find time to paint – come and join us or contact Rena Perkins on 01452 863993. We’ll be delighted to welcome you!
